Ed Fowler | 2018 C-VILLE-athon Finisher
My favorite C-VILLE-athon race is the Monticello 5k because it is such a special race due to the historical setting. Nothing else like it and the holiday spirit only enhances the experience (Leah and her tunes!). Also the weather is usually great for running … making it one of the best races to set a new PR. The New Year’s Day 5k is also a favorite because it’s inspirational to gather with 300 others on the first day of the year and get things off to a solid start.
Why would I recommend the C-VILLE-athon to local runners? Without a doubt … it’s a fun challenge. I’ve tried and missed qualifying each of the last two years due to unexpected work travel. But I finally made it! It’s good to start early and get some easy races out of the way. A little about me... I do executive search work, primarily for investment management firms. I’ve lived in Cville for 16+ years and started running about 5 years ago when my daughter (then in 7th grade) joined the XC Team at STAB under Coach Taye. That was a key motivation for me, along with the fact that I was about two years away from turning 50 and wanted to mark that milestone by being in the best physical shape since turning 30. I think I succeeded in that goal, then at age 50 I first heard about (and joined) the CTMTP Program and did my first Ten Miler in 2016. I had only ever run more than 5 miles once in my life and that program enabled me to take it to a new level and I completed my first Ten-Miler followed by the Park-to-Park Half-Marathon 6 weeks later. All the races beneficiaries are great, but I really like one supporting VIA and try to either run or volunteer at that race every year. |
