This was my first year doing most of these races— I just moved to town last year. The Charlottesville Ten Miler and the Pepsi 10k for Special Olympics were my favorite of the dozen-or-so races that I ran in the Charlottesville area in 2019. Partially due to the time of the year (early spring / early fall) and mostly due to overall turnout and community involvement. And both of these races had notable snack spreads. The cool thing about all these races is that there's enough of a solid core of a running community in the area that you never feel like a stranger... and then a rotating cast of individuals that might not be as-into running but support the cause of the race. It's a neat way to meet people in the community and a real pleasant way to start any Saturday.
